“You’re My Number One” / “Let Me Know” (CBS 202039) February 1966
The Tony Jackson Group | You’re My Number One | (CBS) 1966 | “You’re My Number One” is a cross between the Byrds and the Hollies with massed guitars. Could make it. (Disc Weekly, 19/02/66)
After four poor selling singles in a row, Tony Jackson and the Vibrations were dropped by Pye. Fortunately, CBS believed they still had potential, and signed them in early 1966, though the band were renamed The Tony Jackson Group, and keyboardist Paul Raymond was replaced by Ian Green.
The jangly “You’re My Number One” was compared to The Byrds by at least one reviewer, though it probably sounds more like a cross between The Searchers and The Hollies. A great start to the contract – apart from the lack of sales.
“Let Me Know” does sound like The Byrds! Again, not the strongest of songs, though it’s no worse than the A-side
