“Leave It” / “Just The Two Of Us” (Moxie Records 202-1) 1970

Satrycon | Leave It | Moxie | 1970 | This is not only a scarce and sought after record the band themselves have never been traced and virtually no information about them is available online.

Let me start with the record label first. Moxie Records were based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and released only two singles, and that was it! The first 45 was by The Kindred Spirit, “Under My Thumb” / “Blue Avenue” (Moxie 201) 1969. This was re-released on Intrepid, but only with a stereo and mono recording of the Rolling Stones cover “Under My Thumb”.

Satrycon‘s disc followed on (Moxie 202). Both groups had the same producer in John George. I have not been able to find any information about him.

“Leave It” has a typical late 60s, early 70s biker fuzz rocker sound. It’s very lo-fi but it does feel rather menacing with the fuzz and backing vocals. Think of a garage band version of Steppenwolf.

The other side, “Just The Two Of Us”, is much more commercial and verges on Ohio Express-groove-style pop music. Good use of organ with lyrics about jumping into a car and driving somewhere, anywhere. This track has never been compiled.
