Still searching for that record, like XTC did for so long. It’ll come, but whether this is it, well, don’t ask me, guv. “At The Edge” thrashes around a lot and the vocals are energetic – but it could use some of the humour of its B-side, two ‘Silly Encores’ from Autumn 1979, with “Running Bear” and good ole Irv’s “White Christmas”. A bunch of well-meant and well-performed noise from the Credible Ones, with Jake Burns ripping his throat out with commendable lack of concern for his health. However, the song doesn’t seem to deserve all that energy. Anger isn’t enough. (NME, 28/01/80)
